Frequently asked questions.
Short answers for building owners, energy management system providers and grid operators.
About kuafu
What is kuafu?
kuafu is an independent Swiss start-up based in Dübendorf. It offers an AI-powered grid-edge orchestration platform as a service. The platform makes heat pumps, batteries and EV chargers in buildings work with the power grid, to lower energy costs and CO₂.
Who is kuafu for?
kuafu is for building and real-estate owners, energy management system (EMS) providers and grid operators. kuafu connects them, so that flexible devices in buildings help the grid instead of straining it.
What is grid-edge orchestration?
Grid-edge orchestration coordinates many small devices where buildings connect to the grid, such as heat pumps, batteries, solar systems and EV chargers. They then support the grid and keep costs low. kuafu offers it as a service. Read the guide.
Who supports kuafu?
kuafu is supported by the Swiss Federal Office of Energy (SFOE), Innosuisse, ESA BIC Switzerland, MassChallenge, Founderful Campus and NCCR Automation, among others. In 2026, kuafu was selected for Venture Leaders Cleantech and as a Hello Tomorrow Deep Tech Pioneer, and was a finalist for the Rocket Day + Impact Award.
For building and real-estate owners
Can kuafu lower my building's energy costs?
Often, yes. kuafu runs heat pumps, batteries and EV charging when electricity is cheaper or when renewable supply is high, for example from your own solar panels. In 2025 pilots, this lowered energy costs compared with standard control (VSE PerspectivE, in German).
Does kuafu work for a portfolio of buildings?
Yes. kuafu is designed to manage many buildings together, with real-time monitoring across all connected sites.
Do I need new equipment?
Usually not. kuafu works through the energy management systems already in buildings. It controls heat pumps, batteries and EV chargers, and coordinates them with solar (PV) systems. We first check which of your systems can be connected.
Does kuafu support ZEV, vZEV and LEG?
Yes. kuafu can support Swiss energy communities (ZEV, vZEV and LEG). Contact us to discuss your project. Read our guide.
For EMS providers and grid operators
Do EMS providers need to replace their system?
No. kuafu connects to the energy management systems that providers already run. It adds predictive energy management for more cost savings, and access to grid services for new income. See the EMS provider page.
How does kuafu help grid operators?
kuafu makes the flexibility in buildings visible and usable: real-time visibility, flexibility forecasts, congestion management and energy balancing. This helps grid operators optimise the grid before they reinforce it, as Swiss law asks (Art. 9b StromVG). See the grid operator page.
Getting started
How do I start with kuafu?
